The main things we considered in this review were the lumens, contrast ration and resolution. When considering the best HD projectors we felt these were the most important things to look at. We understand there are other bells and whistles that are important like connections, accessories, weight, etc, but they may not be as important when considering HD projectors.

After careful review, the Epson Powerlite 8350 Home Cinema came out on top. It does not have the most lumens in the category, but it is 1080p compatible and has an astonishing 50000:1 contrast ratio which means it can differentiate colors at a very high level.  It also has close to 100 consumer reviews that rank it 4.5 stars out of 5. This is a perfect projector for a home theater setting. It isn’t the smallest projector in the class. That distinction goes to the Optoma PK301, so it may not be best suited for the business user to be carrying around. However, when we think of best HD projector we tend to think more of home entertainment applications.

To review these projectors for computers we basically took the top selling projectors in Amazon that had the ability to connect to a computer. We then looked to see which ones were reviewed highly.

We also tried to consider the projectors first that had VGA connections since that is still the main form of connecting to a PC. More computers are shipping with HDMI ports and Apple uses it quite a bit. But, there are still many PCs that do not use that yet. We did however include the ViewSonic PJD5123 in our top 5 even though it only had HDMI inputs.

We decided that the Optoma HD20 Projector was the best projector for computers available. It has a high resolution and lumen rating as well. Furthermore, it is not too big to be able to be carried around for business presentations and similar duties.

What we found is that the best seller on Amazon, the Epson Powerlite Home Cinema 8350 does not have the most reviews, but has one of the higher ratings for projectors in the home theater market.

Optoma PT100 PlayTime LED Projector Lumens

The Optoma PT100 PlayTime LED projector is only rated at 50 ANSI lumens. That means that it may not work well in conditions where there is a lot of light. So, if you are wanting to use the projector in an office environment with lots of windows then this may not be the projector for you. This isn’t the Optoma HD20 or Optoma HD66. It is meant to be portable and easy to use. So, it sacrifices some things in its small form factor.

While it is only 50 Lumens it is an LED light that has an estimated life of over 20,000 hours. So, that means you get a projector that is under $200 and you will probably never have to change the bulb in there. That means a smaller cost of of ownership.

The Vivitek Qumi Q2 boasts 300 lumens. Now, 300 lumens may not seem like a lot compared to other projectors on the market, but you have to remember this is a small projector. However, there are people saying they are projecting images on 80” screens with ambient light without any issues at all.  It is going to work better under low light conditions, but remember this is meant for a quick and ready projector.

This projector would not be suited for conditions with bright light. But, it would be great in situations where little to no ambient light is present. It would be great for gaming, movies or business presentations in low-light situations on smaller screens.

Pros: Probably the biggest selling point of the Vivitek Qumi Q2 projector is its size. Weighing in at 1.4 pounds it is easy to carry. It is also small enough to fit into your pocket. Then the fact it is easy to set up and connect various devices like smartphones, computers, usb flash drives means it is simple to use.

Cons: It has a low lumens rating at 300. However, people are still reporting good picture quality with the 300 lumens rating. This is important because if you are in a room with ambient light, windows, etc, then you will need a brighter bulb to show the picture on the screen. We have reviewed other projectors that are versatile in that they can be used for personal use or business use. I would say that the Epson PowerLite 8350 is best used in a home entertainment function. Its pretty heavy and bigger than other models so it is not as convenient to haul around from presentation to presentation. You can still do it, but it isn’t recommended.

They tend to like its flexibility in placement. In other words, you can mount it, but it is also great to be used in different locations easily without the need for mounting.
